Intro to Woodworking – Bird box,  £25 per person

This is a friendly and very popular beginners class in the WOMEN MAKERS PROGRAMME series specifically geared towards getting women acquainted with tools and basic woodwork skills.  The project is run by  Heal Earth  enterprise based in Baltic creative, Liverpool  in partnership with “Woodwork to Wellness” charity in Chester.

Why Women’s Only Woodwork?

Woodworking for Women improves creative self -care, grows confidence and innovation.
We offer learning skills and experience in more supportive and low-pressure atmosphere. And, once you get the basics, you can easily create fun projects yourself!

Our bodies are different, our backgrounds are likely different, and so we need a class just for ourselves!  This class is intended to get ladies up-to-speed on basic building skills, working with wood, and using hand-tools as well as power-tools.
Join us for this hands on, skill-building, tour-de-tools, and de-mystify all those DIY project instructions you’ve seen. You will take from this class a bunch of new skills,  a head full of confidence, and an itch to make stuff!  You will hopefully complete your beautiful bird box to take home too!

About the *Woodwork to Wellness Project

This is both a skills development and craft creation centre with a difference.  It will involve people from all ages and different walks of life who are looking for that “something” to do with their spare time in a warm and relaxed environment.  Even those, for whatever reason, find themselves in a most difficult place.

Woodwork to Wellness is home to over 2,000 sq ft of workshop space.

Two work benches are specifically for wheelchair users so that access to the surface of the bench is easy.  Each bench can be home to four wheelchairs giving us a daily capacity of eight wheelchair users at any one time.  There is a café on-site which is also wheelchair and disability friendly and that too will help towards the long-term sustainability of the project.
Many of the items made at the project (if not wanted by the maker) will be sold at the small on-site shop and these will include all manner of items made from wood and other materials.

Other key elements of the project involve basic trade skills such as; brickwork, repair plastering, tiling and DIY.  More information can be obtained from the website
www.woodworktowellness.org.uk and www.transformationforveterans.org.uk
